SASSA Old Age Grant Payment Dates: April And May Schedule Released For Beneficiaries

The South African Social Security Agency has made its official payment schedule for the 2026/2027 financial year public. This will help older people who depend on monthly grants understand when they will get their money.

The agency said that the schedule was approved by the National Treasury which makes sure that payments are in line with national financial systems and operational needs.

Payments at the beginning of the month were confirmed.

SASSA said that older people will get their grants early each month, with the first payments set for April 7ย  and May 5, 2026.

“The general rule for figuring out when social grants will be paid is to make sure they are paid as early in the month as possible, spread out over three days,” the agency said.

Also, this staggered system makes sure that people in different categories get their payments on different days. This cuts down on congestion at pay points and makes it easier to get money.

Rules that control the schedule

The agency set strict rules for figuring out when payments are due each month. These include not making payments on certain days to make sure everything goes smoothly.

SASSA said that “payments should not be made a day after a holiday,” and they also said that payments should not be made on the first day of the month or on a Monday.

The agency also said that payment dates can’t be on weekends. If they do, payments will automatically move to the next business day.

These steps are meant to make sure that the National Payment System works well and that beneficiaries don’t have to wait.

Higher grant amounts starting in April

The national budget speech said that older people will also benefit from higher grant amounts starting in April.

The old age grant will also go up by R80, making the total monthly payment R2,400. This change is meant to help people who get benefits deal with rising costs of living.

SASSA stressed its ongoing commitment to beneficiaries by saying that it is still focused on making payments on time and reliably.

“The agency said, “SASSA reaffirms its commitment to paying social grants to eligible beneficiaries on time.” It also told anyone who is having problems to go to their local office for help.
