It doesn’t take much to turn a trip to the curb into a living room centerpiece. Just a few coats of paint and a lot of patience will do the trick. We often think of old furniture as big, dusty things that smell like mothballs. But these people showed that even a $5 chair from a thrift store has a soul worth saving. We put together 15 DIY furniture flips that show how a little creativity can turn old junk into beautiful treasures.

I’m also going to tell you my own story at the end as a bonus. This unexpected magic might make you run to the hardware store for sandpaper before you finish reading. Let’s get into these changes that bring us pure joy!

We came for something else, and the armchair was a nice surprise. We fixed it up and are very happy with it.
I changed the design of these Broyhill nightstands from 1994. Had to throw away the acorns.

Three weeks ago, Ann Anderson said, “Great job, but I don’t like the two round knobs on them.”It would be perfect if they had that one round knob and the other one from the other old one.
It’s your favorite from a long time ago, and it’s not bad. I’m not sure I could have made something like this from the original, but it really is a keepsake! Keep in mind that everyone has an opinion.
Anna Breedlove, three weeks ago: “I think it looks even more ‘vintage’ now… great job!”
Brought the dresser back to how it used to look.

Yes! Three weeks ago That’s how it should be! The original wood is beautiful.
We were going to throw ours away…
I found this buffet and brought it back to life.

In the first picture, it looked like a cabinet for a metal shop. A change that will make your jaw drop! © Knife-yWife-y / Reddit
The family wanted to throw it away, but I took the old tablecloth and did this with it!

The dresser that took a lot of time and money to make
Anna Keith: I love both sides, but the right side took my breath away! Pretty
This looks very fashionable. This is the most beautiful wallpaper I’ve ever seen, to be honest. I got this dresser for $5.
I’ve never been a “handyman,” but I liked working on this dresser.
Three weeks ago, Anna Breedlove said she liked it.I get tired of how “wood” looks.

Bonus: how my husband and I put the desk back together
My husband brought home a worn-out desk from work. I complained, “Why do we need this stuff?” But he wouldn’t back down. He said, “It’s solid wood; we’ll fix it!”
We spent a week trying to get rid of the old varnish. When we started putting the new back panel on, a thick envelope fell out of a crack. There was no money inside, but there was a passport for the product that was dated 1905 and had the personal seal of a well-known craftsman. The appraiser said we paid the same amount for a museum piece as we would for firewood.
We keep thinking about what to do after the restoration: sell it or keep it.
Three weeks ago, Amanda Loel said, “Keep it.”
You can always use it to get a loan to improve your finances (buy property) if it’s that valuable. You can do this over and over again!
You will waste the money if you sell it, unless you put it all into retirement investments.
Real treasures don’t always cost a lot of money. Sometimes they are just sitting in a garage or at a local flea market. With a little creativity and some do-it-yourself work, every piece can turn into a stunning work of art. What do you think? Is it worth spending weeks on a restoration, or is it better to just buy new? Let us know what you think in the comments!
